Cycling in the Chesterfield area - a pictorial storyAuthor Steve Chambers![]() Chesterfield C & AC 25-mile Time Trial Championships, 1928 showing dress of the day. Seated front centre is 'Jimmy Webster' the 'builder of my Webster c1949
![]() Road race in the 1950's going past the Midge Inn near Hatton in Lincolnshire ![]() Chesterfield group 'cape up' in Derbyshire - it's raining again,1950's ![]() ![]() Two images of a hill climb event at 1960's in the Peak district again possibly on the old road out of Castleton before it fell away near Mam Tor? ![]() A track event at the Staveley Works cycling track near Barrow hill in Chesterfield early 50's I am led to believe it is the opening day and Reg Harris opened the event, everyone thought he'd do a couple of laps but apparently he wanted paying extra for that, "instead he turned up in a white Jag wi a leggy blonde in tow" says rider pictured in second spot. The track is still there but is now a golf driving range behind the Barrow Hill Steam railway/Turntable ...apparently the track wasn't used for that long as it was very fast and quite dangerous |
