Webster of Chesterfield - 1949Owned by: Steve ChambersI bought the machine
after chatting to an old Gent at my local Council tip (no longer a
source of cheap cycles ALL are now scrapped) who informed me
of the machine he had for sale, up until then I had never heard of
Websters.
The machine was
fitted with Shimano 600 Arabesque groupset - very pretty and efficient
but well out of period, so that was sold to help pay for the period
refit of the machine.
It appears Jimmy Webster was a bit of a local celebrity and
eccentric in the cycling world. His shop appears to have
closed in the mid 1980's.
Headbadge on right shows unusual use of 'nickname'
It is still a point of conjecture as to how many frames he built. When his shop was cleared there were part-built frames, lugs of all types (even pre-war) and a forge with brazing equipment . ![]()
